The Institute
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).
The role
A new position is open for 2 technicians at the CRG/UPF Proteomics Unit. The laboratory focuses on the identification, quantification and characterization of proteins by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The duties associated with the position will mainly focus on sample handling, maintenance of liquid chromatographers and mass spectrometers, assessment of instrument performance, inventory check, laboratory purchases, and support to researchers.
The Unit
Proteomics technologies connect the biological complexity with the molecular pathological mechanisms, and they are used in many translational research projects for both the diagnosis, and the understanding of disease mechanisms. The CRG/UPF Proteomics Unit focuses its technological research activities on the development of mass spectrometric methods for targeted protein quantitation, the characterization of protein interactions, and the identification of protein post-translational modifications with high sensitivity, reproducibility, accuracy and precision. The Unit tackles several aspects to overcome the current analytical limitations to enable rapid, high-quality proteome quantification in patient biopsies, tissues, and cell cultures. The main research goals of the Unit are to define what peptides are the best protein surrogates for protein quantification in whole-proteome analyses, to extend the precision and accuracy of single-biomarker methods to whole-proteome quantification analyses, and to develop highly sensitive acquisition methods compatible with fast proteome analyses for high sample throughput. The CRG/UPF Protoemics Unit is part of the Spanish National Infrastructure of Omics Technologies (ICTS OmicsTech) and the European consortium EPIC-XS (2019-2022).

Previous experience in mass spectrometry, proteomics or similar analytical techniques
Education and training

Bachelor's in science on Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry or related disciplines

“Cicle Formatiu de Grau Superior” in disciplines related to “Chemistry”
Technical skills required

Previous experience in liquid chromatography and/or mass spectrometry
