The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

The role

A new position is open for a technician at the CRG/UPF Proteomics Unit. The laboratory focuses on the identification, quantification and characterization of proteins by HPLC and ESI-based mass spectrometry. The duties associated with the position will mainly focus on sample handling, maintenance of HPLC and mass spectrometers, assessment of instrument performance, check inventory, do the laboratory purchases, attend users and elaborate service quotations among other administrative tasks.

About the team

The Proteomics Unit is a joint effort of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Center of Genomic Regulation to create an innovative research infrastructure with a high-level of excellence and sustainability to support scientists in the biomedical field. The activities of the Proteomics Unit are focused onto the provision of high-quality proteomics services with strong added-value to the research community by i) offering state-of-the-art methods, advise and expertise to support basic and translational researchers; ii) developing new methods and techniques that keep the unit up to date and at the forefront of the proteomics field; and iii) training the community and actively disseminating proteomics science and methods.

The Proteomics Unit is part of the Spanish National Infrastructure for Omics Technologies (ICTS OmicsTech) and the European Proteomics Infrastructure Consortium (EPIC-XS, GA 823839), and it coordinates the European innovative and interdisciplinary Research and Training network PROTrEIN (GA 956148). The Proteomics Unit is also part of the "Plataforma de Recursos Biomoleculares y Bioinformáticos - ProteoRed" of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, part of the Spanish National Health System (PT17/0019).

Whom would we like to hire?

Professional experience

Must Have

• You have previous experience in biomedical/chemical research
• You have previous experience in mass spectrometry, proteomics or similar analytical techniques

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

• You have previous experience in proteomics
• Good skills with office automation and data analysis software

Education and training

• You hold a Bachelor in Science on Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry or related disciplines
• You hold a “Cicle Formatiu de Grau Superior” in disciplines related to “Chemistry”


• You are fluent in English

Technical skills

• You have previous experience in mass spectrometry
• You have previous experience in liquid chromatography


• You have analytical skills
• You have critical thinking
• You have the capability of working independently and in a team
• You have good communication skills

The Offer – Working Conditions

Contract duration: 1 year.
Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
Target start date: April-May 2021.

Selection Process

Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise reflected on the candidates CVS. It will be merit-based.

Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and a selection panel if required.

Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is identified the Human Resources department will send a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary, working conditions, among other important details.
