The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

The role  

We are looking for a Research Trainee (master level) with expertise in molecular and cellular biology to work in a project in which we aim to define the role of the nuclear localization of a protein in cancer cells. The trainee must have knowledge in immunofluorescence, cell culture, cell transfection and infection, small molecule treatment and data analysis.   

About the team/ lab/ department  

Our laboratory specializes in high-throughput image analysis, subcellular proteomics, transcriptomics, genetic screening, bioinformatics and cell and molecular biology techniques. We are a group of about 10 people from different cultures and countries. We are part of the genome biology department at the CRG, and we aim to understand why metabolic enzymes localize to the nuclear environment and participate in specific chromatin functions. 

Whom would we like to hire?  

Professional experience  

Must Have

  • You have more than 6 months of experience in a similar role 

  • You have proven experience in immunofluorescence and image analysis 

  • You have experience with data analysis, including transcriptomics

  • You are fluent in English

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

  • You have experience with customizable image analysis pipelines 

  • You have knowledge of cancer biology, in particular breast cancer

  • You have experience with Western Blot, cell culture, qPCR, and other rutinary cellular and molecular biology techniques

Education and training

  • You have a master's degree in biological sciences or a related field.

Languages

  • You are proficient in English  

Competences  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision 

  • Have the drive and commitment to produce high quality experimental results 

  • Strong organizational skills 

  • Ability to work as part of a team 

  • Collegiality

  • Punctuality in delivering results 

The Offer – Working Conditions 

  • Contract duration: 5 months  

  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales 

  • Target start date: Either the 15th of October or 1st November (2024)
