The role

Postdoctoral position in the Microtubule function and cell division lab at the CRG to develop and apply general experimental methods in order to understand the role of the microtubule network in cell organization and function.

About the lab

Research in the lab is directed at understanding the role of the microtubule network in cell organization and function. To address this question we study various microtubule-associated proteins (molecular motors and MAPs) and their regulators (kinases, phosphatases and the small GTPase Ran during M-phase). One major goal is to unravel how the self-organization of cellular components results in the morphogenesis of dynamic molecular machines. At present the lab is focusing on one example of self-organization: the assembly of the bipolar spindle in mitosis and meiosis.

Our favorite experimental system is the Xenopus egg extract system for studies on cell cycle progression and regulation, microtubule dynamics, spindle assembly and chromosome behaviour (Karsenti and Vernos, 2001). We combine it with the use of human tissue culture cells in which we validate some of the results obtained in egg extract.

Professional experience

Must Have

  • You have proven experience in the field of cell division and in particular in microtubule physiology

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

  • You have experience in microscopy, protein expression and purification

Education and training

  • You hold a Phd in Cell Biology


  • You are fluent in English

Technical skills

  • You have at least two years of experience with the Xenopus egg extract system


  • You have highly developed organization skills
  • You have high attention to detail

The Offer – Working Conditions

  • Contract duration: 2 years
  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
  • Target start date: January 2020
