The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The role 

Our lab has an open PhD position in molecular and cancer biology at the Department of Gene Regulation Stem Cell and Cancer for a highly motivated and talented candidate. The position is for a period of 4 years, with the possibility of a 5th year extension.

About the lab

We offer a dynamic and international working environment. The exciting and multidisciplinary research project aims at advancing on the understanding on a family of mammalian protein kinases known as DYRK, whose members appear to be involved in key processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation and survival in mammalian cells. Alterations in the expression of several DYRK family members in humans have been associated to pathological processes ranging from genetic disorders (for instance, DYRK1A haploinsufficiency syndrome for mutations in DYRK1A or abdominal obesity-metabolic syndrome-3 for mutations in DYRK1B) to cancer. The project will use a broad range of techniques including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, protein biochemistry and other molecular biology techniques.

Whom would we like to hire? 

Professional experience

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

  • You have prior lab experience in the following areas:
    • Standard molecular techniques (such as cloning, PCR)
    • Standard protein analysis methods (Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, pull-down)
    • Mammalian cell culture

Education and training

  • You hold a Master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related fields by the time of applying or not later than March 2021


  • You have a good level in written and spoken English


  • You are a highly motivated and organized candidate

  • You have good communication skills
  • You are a team worker

The Offer – Working Conditions

  • Contract duration:  4 years PhD Position
  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
  • Target start date: October-December, 2020

Selection Process
