The Institute
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role
As a Health and Safety Intern, you will join the team responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment across the center, with a particular focus on supporting the dissemination and communication of health promotion initiatives.
You will gain hands-on experience in key areas such as occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and applied psychosociology.
During the internship, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support the dissemination of CRG Health Promotion activities through internal communication channels (e.g., campaigns, announcements, and newsletters).
- Support the planning, rollout, and follow-up of health promotion campaigns by tracking participation and collecting feedback to improve future initiatives.
- Support in identifying and assessing occupational risks related to the center’s activities, applying current regulations and internal standards.
- Assist in conducting measurements and evaluations of physical, chemical, and biological agents.
- Contribute to proposing and implementing preventive and corrective measures.
- Help develop and deliver training and awareness materials for staff.
- Participate in the management of chemical substances and preparations.
- Collect and analyze data on workplace accidents and incidents.
- Monitor the condition and correct use of collective and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate in drafting procedures and maintaining documentation to support continuous improvement of the management system.
- Work closely with the Occupational Health department.
- Take part in emergency preparedness and self-protection activities.

About the department
The mission of the Health and Safety Department is to ensure that safety is an essential component of all activities at the CRG. To do it, CRG develops regulations to avoid, reduce and control foreseeable risks to health and safety to the highest possible degree.
The CRG has adopted the organizational model of an in-house occupational risk prevention service.
The main Health and Safety activities are the following:
- Ensure a healthy and safe work environment that complies with all legal requirements and CRG’s policies and procedures
- Provide high-quality information, training and supervision to all staff to enable them to comply with and be accountable for their health and safety at their workplace
- Carry out appropriate procedures to monitor and audit compliance with the CRG health and safety policies
- Perform all necessary processes to identify, assess and control the risks associated with activities at CRG

Education and training
- This internship is aimed at students currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Occupational Risk Prevention Management (specializing in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, and Applied Psychosociology) or (Public Health and Occupational Health)
- Bachelor’s degree in Prevention and Integral Safety, or a CFGS – Técnico Superior en Riesgos Profesionales.
Languages
- You are proficient in Spanish, Catalan and English

- You have advanced MS Office skills
- Knowledge of Safety Legislation/Regulations

The Offer – Working Conditions
- Contract duration: Internship agreement
- Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales
